Last October was still warm enough to bike in shirtsleeves, but panic simmered at war expanding and the prospect of a demented narcissist holding keys to the empire. I take solace from this bright sapling next to the soaring arc of the hipshot maple, “The Understudy.” The comfort of enduring natural cycles: long after the century tree falls she will shine on.
